Frankenstein Vs. The Titans, a two color, gonzo-urban-fantasy-buddy-cop novel, will be released on Kindle and Smashwords JANUARY 17TH, 2014.

Theo Frankenstein's father refused to give him a name. So Theo made one out of his accidental biographer's most famous work. Audrey Sefton had no clue that his new posting as a detective in special services would mean policing monsters. And he's not sure that he likes keeping it classified. Westhoeven is a small Midwestern city, and a reservation where the U.S. government has secretly located all manner of supernatural entities. Today, something has started killing wizards, threatening to ignite a war between wizards and monsters. Today, Theo must break in his new mortal partner, find out what his monstrous girlfriend is hiding from him, and solve the mystery for his backers in The Agency. Or Westhoeven may get stomped flat.

The nice thing about being a self independent publisher is that you get to set your own schedule. I've got an indy-clean manuscript, and I'm putting it online in January to see if I get a bump from the I, Frankenstein, movie release on January 24th, which I would have been geeked about even if I hadn't decided to finally put The Monster in a buddy cop novel in 2011. Frankenstein's monster in a modern Paradise Lost. Like Pacific Rim, except with the monster subbing in for Johnny Socko's robot and Angels and Demons subbing in for Monster Island.

I know there' some other stuff in there, but Johnny Socko Vs. Monster Island is what plays in my head when I think about Pacific Rim.

SO... Indy publisher. Set your own schedule.

I will release Frankenstein Vs. The Titans on Kindle and Smashwords JANUARY 17TH, 2014, to be followed by releases on other stores, including: Apple, Barnes & Noble, Sony, Kobo, PageFoundry, and the Diesel eBook Store.

I still don't like selling books to my friends, so I am going to FREE-LEASE Frankenstein Vs. The Titans FEBRUARY 14TH, 2014. This is a SUPER-SEKRIT free-lease, largely because nobody but you guys even knows who I am. (I know, right?) I am going to make it free for Kindle to all comers, publicize it on Facebook, and if you send me an email address I will send you a coupon code for an EPUB version through Smashwords. I respectfully ask that if you have any feelings about it one way or the other, you review it on Amazon. KTHX.

And then I'm going to do some other stuff to promote it, ALL YEAR, while I am writing Frankenstein Vs. The Dream Eaters. Any body want to write an article about me for MLIVE? Anybody?

Anybody?

Bueller?

11 PM Book Review - Daughter of Smoke and Bone

Classified as young adult fiction, Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor is a fun read for adults as well, with a charming protagonist and elegant language that sets a cynically romantic tone.

Karou is an art student in Prague, heartbroken because her callous seducer of a boyfriend has slept with another girl. "Loneliness is worse when you return to it after a reprieve - like the soul's version of putting on a wet bathing suit, clammy and miserable."

She isn't your average art student, though. Her hair is blue, she draws pictures of monsters, and she uses a bracelet full of tiny wishes to humiliate her ex while he is nude modelling for her class. She has a secret, you see. She lives with the monsters called Chimera, half human, half animal craftspeople who send her all over the world to buy teeth from unscrupulous traders in return for the wishes they make.

Then flame winged angels set fire to her "family's" home, and Karou is forced to flee. But not before she sees one of the angels, Akiva. And he sees her. And they are drawn to each other by passions that they both resist and a past life connection that Akiva knows will destroy her love for him.

Daughter of Smoke and Bone is an urban fantasy that tells the story of a tragic romance with wit, sweetness and colorful world building, going beyond vampires and werewolves into new territory.
